About the way we travel, we will elaborate on the following points:
Different level of luxury
TrekBaltics offers the following services:
On Camping Treks you can also count on average one overnight stay per week in a cabin/farmhouse/hostel.
For both Camping- & Comfort Treks be prepared that sometimes a shower and/or flush toilet is not available. When there is no shower, then taking a bath in pure nature (a lake or a river) with bio-degradable soap is the answer! But don't worry, the water is of great quality.
Camping Treks are only performed during the summer season. In spring, autumn and winter we only perform Comfort Treks.
You can book pre- and/or post-tour hotel rooms
When booking online more then 5 weeks before your preferred tour departs, you can often book your pre- and post tour hotel room online during booking (SPA Breaks are excluded since they are not really tours, but a relaxing luxury Beauty & Health stay with a comfortable room at a SPA Resort). However when your tour starts within 5 weeks from today, please contact the TrekBaltics Sales Office for separate booking of a pre- and/or post tour hotel room. This hotel room booking is subject to room availability at our hotel(s) in the departure city and arrival city of your tour.
Offered facilities at the overnight places on our tours
Our transportation on treks
Transportation on our treks is done per air-conditioned vans with excellent stereo systems to ensure your comfort and pleasure on the trek. On each trek we have a maximum of 16 passengers, so groups stay relatively small resulting in a much more personal and flexible tour.
Camping experience for a Camping Trek
Don't worry... TrekBaltics makes it really easy! Camping experience is not required, but just nice to have. We provide all the necessary camping equipment including tents, food coolers, camp lights, stoves, cooking equipment, cutlery and other camp accessories. Our tents are very easy to set up and take down. They are virtually weather-proof (high PU-value) to keep you dry and comfortable.
Most of our first time campers actually grow to love sleeping in the great outdoors. You will sleep in high quality, heavy duty three person tents which you share with only one other trekker (normally of the same sex), leaving you enough space to store two backpacks in the tent as well. TrekBaltics provides all passengers with a thermal sleeping mat. Passengers who want a more comfortable night can bring their own self-inflatable air mattress.
The size of the sleeping compartment of your tent is 2.10 meters long and 2.00 meters wide. And outside the sleeping compartments there is another covered compartment of 1.20 meters long and 2.00 meters wide for your shoes and any other equipment.
Items to bring with you on a tour
Language spoken on the tours
All Treks and Adventure & Activity Packages offered by TrekBaltics will be English spoken due to the possible different nationalities from all over the world in the travelling group. However the owner of TrekBaltics will be present as well on all Treks and can give support in German and Dutch when needed.
Start and end of our treks
All treks depart from our departure hotels at 8:30am on the departure morning and generally end between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the final day of the tour at our destination hotel. If you are too late on the departure morning and the tour group has already left the departure hotel, then it's up to yourself and at your own expense to catch up with the tour.
For your convenience, we suggest that you spend the final evening of your tour in our destination hotel. If you must leave that evening, we recommend that you book a flight departing no earlier than 11:00pm to allow possible delays on tour. Very often the whole group has a goodbye evening together on the last day of the tour. You probably don't want to miss those last great moments together.
The "Food Kitty"?
The Food Kitty is a money reserve for paying for the mails on your Camping/Comfort Trek. Each passenger pays EUR 5,= per day into the Food Kitty at the start of the trek. So in case of a trek of 14 days a total of EUR 70,= per passenger has to be deposited into the Food Kitty. The money is guarded by your trek leader. He is responsible for doing the bookkeeping on money spend on food for the trek group. Normally EUR 5,= per day is sufficient to pay for all meals outside the big cities. In big cities you eat at your own expense.
Food for the trek group is bought by the group themselves several times during the trek in big shopping centres. Meals outside big cities are also prepared by the group themselves. For this we have a rotation system. See "How are the group tasks during a trek divided?".
Please be aware that the Food Kitty is only for Camping Treks and Comfort Treks, and not for Adventure & Activity Package tours.
Group tasks during the treks
During the trek all trek passengers participate in the daily tasks that have to be performed according to a daily task-rotation system. The tasks that are rotating between groups of 2 or 3 passengers are:
The following task is performed by a fixed group of 2 passengers during the entire trek, assisted by the trek leader:
Luggage limitations for all tours (excluding SPA Breaks)
One suitcase or backpack of maximum 15 kg, plus your sleeping bag, plus one small carry-on bag (day pack of maximum 5 kg) for inside the van. Be sure to check the weight allowance of your luggage with your airline or travel agent.
TrekBaltics prefers you to bring a backpack, since packing the luggage part of the van with backpacks is much easier. Also be aware that your luggage sometimes has to suffer some rough handling during luggage loading onto the tour van. For a normal quality backpack this is no problem.
For SPA Breaks there are no luggage limitations besides the limitations set by your airline or travel agent.
