- 5. How to book a pre- and/or post-tour hotel room?
-
- Camping- & Comfort Treks:
When booking online more than 5 weeks before your preferred tour departs, you can book your pre- and post tour hotel room online during booking. However when your tour starts within 5 weeks from today, please contact the TrekBaltics Sales Office for separate booking of a pre- and/or post tour hotel room. This hotel room booking is subject to room availability at our hotel(s) in the departure city and arrival city of your tour.
Important:
- We have no room price supplement for singles;
- Rooms are based on a twin share basis with another TrekBaltics passenger of the same sex. It is possible that one ladies room and/or one mens room has to be shared with one more TrekBaltics passenger of the same sex. This due the fact that the amount of same sex people in a group might be an uneven number. In those cases an extra bed will be placed in that particular room.

- 13. When do the tours begin and end?
-
- Camping- & Comfort Treks:
All treks depart from our departure hotels at 8:30am on the departure morning and generally end between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the final day of the tour. If you are too late on the departure morning and the tour group has already left the departure hotel, then it's up to yourself and at your own expense to catch up with the tour.
For your convenience, we suggest that you spend the final evening of your tour in our destination hotel. If you must leave that evening, we recommend that you book a flight departing no earlier than 11:00pm to allow possible delays on tour. Very often the whole group has a goodbye evening together on the last day of the tour. You probably don't want to miss those last great moments together;

- 14. What is this "Food Kitty" on treks all about?
-
The Food Kitty is a money reserve for paying for meals on your camping/comfort trek. Each passenger pays EUR 5,= per day into the Food Kitty at the start of the trek. So in case of a trek of 14 days a total of EUR 70,= per passenger has to be deposited into the Food Kitty. The money is guarded by your trek leader. He is responsible for doing the bookkeeping on money which is spent on food for the trek group. Normally EUR 5,= per day is sufficient to pay for all meals outside the big cities. In big cities you eat at your own expense.
Food for the trek group is bought by the group themselves several times during the trek in big shopping centres. Meals outside big cities are also prepared by the group themselves. For this we have a rotation system. See the FAQ: "How are the group tasks during a trek divided?".
Note: Please be aware that the Food Kitty is only for camping treks and comfort treks, and not for Adventure & Activity Packages.
Return to top
- 15. How are the group tasks during a trek divided?
-
During the trek (Camping- or Comfort Trek) all trek passengers participate in the daily tasks that have to be performed according to a daily task-rotation system. The tasks that are rotating between groups of 2 or 3 passengers are:
- Food shopping for the entire group;
- Cooking for the entire group;
- Dish washing for the entire group;
- Van cleaning (a simple van whipe out with a brush);
The following task is performed by a fixed group of 2 passengers during the entire trek, assisted by the trek leader:
- Van loading (loading all the luggage from the group onto the van).
Van loaders don't have to participate in the task rotation system.

- 16. How much luggage can I bring on a tour?
-
Return to top
- 17. How much money do I need to bring on a tour?
-
Please note that all campings/cabins/farmhouse/hostel overnights that are listed in the "Tour Itinerary" of your tour are included in the tour price at all times! Only the seperately booked pre- and post tour hotel nights are not included in the tour price.
- Camping- & Comfort Treks:
The following costs should be accounted for by you:
- Adventure & Activity Packages:
These packages are organized by our partners. On an Adventure & Activity Packages it depends on the specific package how much you need extra per day. But in general EUR 30,= per day should cover possible extra expenses which are not included in the tour price. For detailed info see each package.

- 18. How fit should I be to join a tour?
-
Anyone in reasonably good health can join our tours. Many activities on tour are optional, so you can choose them according to your fitness level. And even if an activity is included in the tour price, you can still decide not to join the activity. Not joining an included tour activity does not give you any right on a refund. Most National Parks offer a variety of hiking trails that suit all levels of adventure and fitness. Many other activities do not require previous experience and are not fitness related.
Each TrekBaltics tour has an indication of the tour difficulty level. This gives each tour a rating from Easy (difficulty level 1) to Strenuous (difficulty level 5).

- 19. Do you offer different levels of luxury on your tours?
-
Yes.
- Camping- & Comfort Treks:
For Treks we have a clear distinction between two levels of luxury for overnight stays:
-
Camping Treks are based on camping at campgrounds or in the wild in 3-person tents which are used for 2 persons only, leaving enough space to store your luggage inside the tent;
-
Comfort Treks are based on cabins/farmhouses/hostels (no sleeping in tents).
On Camping Treks you can also count on average one overnight stay per week in a cabin/farmhouse/hostel.
For both Camping- & Comfort Treks be prepared that sometimes a shower and/or flush toilet is not available. When there is no shower, then taking a bath in pure nature (lake or a river) with bio-degradable soap can be the answer! And don't worry, because the water quality is very good;
-
Adventure & Activity Packages: Here there is no clear distinction in offered luxury for overnight stays. It really depends on which adventure & activity package you book.

- 20. What facilities are offered at the overnight places on your tours?
-
- Camping Treks:
All our Camping Treks use National Park-, State Park-, or wild campsites and also a wide assortment of private/commercial campsites. Most of them will have hot showers and flush toilets, some of them will even have swimming pools/lakes, bars and laundry facilities on site, while others will accentuate the natural beauty of the area and thus tend to be more rustic and basic. TrekBaltics keeps the use of wild campsites to a minimum. Cooking is done either outside or inside depending on the facilities of the site where we stay that night; mostly we cook outside. But please keep in mind that we are on an adventure camping trek and not on a luxury hotel tour, so occasionally a shower and/or flush toilet might not be available;
- Comfort Treks:
All our Comfort Treks use cabins/farmhouses/hostels/etcetera (no camping in tents) on National Park-, State Park-, or private/commercial properties. It is often that an overnight facility offers the combination of camping and cabins/farmhouses/hostels/etcetera. Most of them will have hot showers and flush toilets, some of them will even have swimming pools/lakes, bars and laundry facilities on site, while others will accentuate the natural beauty of the area and thus tend to be more rustic and basic. Cooking is done either outside or inside depending on the facilities of the site where we stay that night. But please keep in mind that we are on an adventure comfort trek and not on a luxury hotel tour, so occasionally a shower and/or flush toilet might not be available;
- Adventure & Activity Packages:
These packages are based on either camping treks facilities or on comfort treks facilities depending on the booked adventure & activity package.

- 21. What if I don't have any camping experience?
-
Don't worry... TrekBaltics makes it really easy! Most first time campers actually grow to love sleeping in the great outdoors.
-
Camping- & Comfort Treks: You will sleep in high quality, heavy duty three person tents which you share with only one other trekker (normally of the same sex). TrekBaltics provides all passengers with a thermal sleeping mat of average 1 cm thick. Passengers who want a more comfortable night can bring their own self-inflatable air mattress;
-
Adventure & Activity Packages: These packages are organized by our partners. The type of tents you sleep in depend on the package that you book. For the answer on this question look at the detailed info at each package.
Return to top
- 22. What do I need to bring on a tour?
-
For all Tours:
- All you need to bring is your luggage, a sleeping bag (matching the temperature range of the season you travel in) and your personal items;
-
Prior to your departure, we will send you a copy of our "Tour Tips" booklet via e-mail, which will provide you a list of suggested items you may want to bring on your trek. But definitely bring your positive and adventurous attitude. And humor is very welcome;
Only for Camping Treks:
- TrekBaltics provides all passengers with a thermal sleeping mat. Passengers who want a more comfortable night can bring their own self-inflatable air mattress;
Only for Comfort Treks:
- One bed sheet (one person or two-person depending on your case);
- One or two pillow covers depending on your case;
Only for Activity- & Adventure Packages:
- The tour packages offered here can vary so much, that a clear advise cannot be given here. For the answer on this question look at the detailed info at each package.

- 25. Are there any age restrictions?
-
The general rule is that our TrekBaltics Treks and Adventure & Activity Packages are designed for trekkers aged 18 to 65 years of age, but there can be deviations from this general rule. Every tour on the TrekBaltics website mentions the mandatory age range for that tour. Consequently, each tour tends to focus on activities and nightlife that appeal to the specified age range for that tour. Each passenger on a TrekBaltics tour must be in the required age range for that tour on the starting/departure day of that tour.
Exception: In case you are a parent with children in the age range of 10 up till and including 17, and you really would like to take them on one of our adventures, then please contact our sales office at sales@trekbaltics.com and ask for special permission. But please be aware that children below 18 are sometimes not allowed to join in some adventure activities and in most nightlife activities. For not adults (below 18) we have the general rule that their parent(s), which has (have) to be on the same tour, is (are) at all times responsible to look after them, and not our tour leaders.
Return to top
- 26. What language will be spoken on the tours?

However the owner of TrekBaltics will be present as well on all Treks and can give support in German and Dutch when needed.
